Jess B.

Pound Instructor

When I graduated from college in 2012, after late nights, minimal exercise and zero nutrition, I was at my all-time heaviest weight and felt so down about myself. I knew it was time for a change as I began a new chapter in life. Shortly after, as I began adjusting to the “real world” and my stationary desk job, I began working out and loved the way it made me feel – both mentally and physically. I lost (and kept off) 50 lbs. since 2012. You can read more about my fitness journey in Pop Sugar.

Home workouts led to a gym membership which then transitioned into absolutely loving Pound, Buti Yoga and barre classes at the same Norwood space which would eventually become Plie Barre Studio! After two years of taking regular Pound classes, I became a licensed Pound instructor in early 2018 and am absolutely in love with teaching.

Describe Yourself!

I’m lighthearted, fun and like to see the bright side in almost every situation. I’m also a determined, motivated person in both my professional life and fitness journey. My idea of happiness is a night in with my husband, complete with takeout, a Netflix documentary, and dog cuddles!

Occupation? :

I’m a public relations manager at a cybersecurity company by day, so I get to work closely with journalists, travel to cool places, and try to land coverage in popular magazines and TV shows.

Favorite Food? : Pizza – every Friday is pizza night for this girl!

Summer or Winter? : Summer time is the best time.

What is your favorite part of teaching class?

I love when new students try Pound for the first time. At first, they don’t know what to expect and before they know it, the 45 minute class is over, they’re dripping in sweat and want to continue rocking out because it was so fun. There’s no greater feeling as a Pound instructor than achieving a fun AND great workout!

Favorite Health or Wellness Tip?

A healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be – and shouldn’t be – boring. Try new, cleaner recipes that resemble some of your favorite, less healthy meals. Try new workout classes with friends. Enjoy the process!

What should we expect in one of your classes?

You can expect a lot of energy, loud upbeat music, tons of sweat, and some singing or jokes along the way.

What is one item on your Bucket List?

Travel to Asia – it’s such a long flight but seems so worth it!

Anything else you want to share?

I’m a rescue dog mom to a little guy named Hammy. He’s four years old and we try to get outdoors together as much as we can. I also love to cook healthy recipes and have my husband rate each new dish from a 1-10 scale. My latest obsession is my air fryer! :)
